Retirement assets in Asia ex-Japan saw a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.8% between 2017 and 2021, reaching total investable assets of US$4.6 trillion in 2021, a new report finds. Meanwhile, the percentage of assets outsourced to managers grew to 36.8% in 2021, from 30.6% in 2017, mainly driven by greater overseas exposure, Cerulli Associates says in its latest report, Asian Retirement Markets 2022: Weaving Stable Safety Nets.

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), one of the world’s largest pension funds, is beefing up its presence in Asia, which it considers as a strategically important market. Despite the challenging business environment, OTPP expects the region to contribute significantly to its goal of reaching C$300 billion (US$216 billion) in net assets by 2030. It currently oversees C$242 billion.

The Asian Association for Investors in Non-Listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV) has released its latest study on fee and cost structures of non-listed real estate funds in Asia-Pacific, as part of its efforts to enhance transparency on fees for investors. According to the study, the average total global expense ratio (TGER) for non-listed real estate funds in the region stands at 1.12%, with notable variations across various vehicle characteristics such as vehicle style, structure or size.

Gold broke through the US$2,000 per ounce ceiling on March 8 2022. The Ukraine crisis, coupled with stagflation fears, saw investors turn to the yellow metal as well as gold exchange-traded funds to add a defensive layer to their portfolios. Gold is now around US$1,650 an ounce, and is widely forecast to continue on its downward slide.
